ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Post has suffered a deficit of Rs 6,297.534 million in last three years due to non revision of tariff and persistent increase in pension and wages of the staff. According to a document containing response of the Ministry of Communications to the questions of parliamentarians, the tariff of 12,035 post offices has not has not been revised since 2009.The revenues of the Pakistan Post had registered the reduction of Rs 1.5 billion per annum due to slashing of its commission on saving schemes from 1.5 percent to 0.5 percent by the Finance Division in 2010. The Pakistan Post earned Rs 8,385.227 million in 2009-10 against expenditure of Rs 8,531.117 million. Its deficit was Rs 145.890 million. In 2010-11, the operational expenditures of Pakistan Post were Rs 10,224.680 million against income of Rs 8,331.576 million.
The deficit was Rs 1,893.104 million.
In 2011-12, expenditures were Rs 12,508.425 million against income of Rs 8,249.885 million. The deficit was Rs 4,258.540 million.
