Opec Fund to assist Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Oil Producing & Exporting Countries (OPEC) Fund for International Development (OFID) would extend a loan worth US$31.10 million for Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower plant project. An agreement to that effect was signed at the OFID headquarters in Vienna, says a press release received here Thursday. The document was signed by the Director General of OFID, Suleiman Jasir Al-Herbish and Pakistans ambassador Khurshid Anwar. The signing on March 23 coincided with the National Day of Pakistan. The Director General congratulated the government and the people of Pakistan and wished success, peace and progress. The Oil Producing & Exporting Countries Funds support for development projects in Pakistan exceeded US$300 million. The Funds director general called Pakistan a country of great promise and prospect. He said OFID had a very positive view of development initiatives undertaken by the government of Pakistan and would continue with its support. The ambassador underlined the significance of power-generation projects in Pakistan. Pakistan appreciated OFIDs support for Neelum-Jhelum project as also for development initiatives in other sectors.
