Sindh CM directive for water supply at Thar coal field

KARACHI-Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah today held a Joint meeting with Sindh Irrigation Department and delegation of Engro Company engaged in Joint venture of power generation at Thar Coal and Energy Project, at Chief Minister House. Chief Minister Sindh said that the Thar Coal & Energy project is one of the important projects of the Pakistan, essential for gasification, power generation and energy production. He said that under joint venture of Government of Sindh and M/S Engro Co for power generation of overall 4000 MW at Block -2. Chief Minister Sindh directed the Irrigation Department to early arrange supply of water upto Block- 2 of Thar Coal project. He said that there are two options for supply of water for said scheme and a detailed report of time limit and expenditure for supply of water from LBOD to Nabisar and Nara/ Makhi Farash to Nabisar be furnished at an earliest. Chief Minister Sindh directed the Secretary Irrigation to expedite the matter as time is very important. He said that the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani is expected to visit the Thar Coal & Energy Project soon. Sindh Secretary for Irrigation Khalid Haider Memon informed that necessary surveys have been conducted and reports will be finalized and submitted soon. He added that 30 to 50 Cusecs water will be supplied for Block-2 and Thar Coal Project as estimated, under scheme. He said that a treatment plant has been proposed to treat the saline and unhygienic water, and due to availability of water, the needs of Thar Coal Project will be met on one side and agricultural productivity will be enhanced on the other. Mr. Khalid Mansoor of M/s Engro said that the Power Plant is scheduled to be completed by the year 2016. END
