SBoI for halting investment transfer from Sindh

KARACHI - The Sindh Board of Investment (SBoI) has proposed measurements to keep halt of trend of investment closure/transfer from Sindh province. The Advisor to Chief Minister on Investment Zubair Ahmed Motiwala in his letter to Minister for Labour Department, has said that due to joint and integrated efforts by the Labour Department and the Sindh Board of Investment, the business community is beginning to appreciate the investor-friendly gestures of government of Sindh in terms of reducing the harassment of different departments by way of hassle free payment of government dues. In the case of social security contribution collection, we have held few meetings and some proposals were considered. The Commissioner of Social Security was also requested to communicate the dates of governing body meeting so that the same proposals are explained to the members, Motiwala added. In the letter SBoI chief addressing to the Labour Department Minister, he said that you would appreciate the investment in Sindh Province, which was either closing down or is being transferred to the other provinces due to many reasons including harassment caused to the employers. In above situation, the SBoI is making efforts to halt this trend of investment closure/transfer as this will compound the already grave problems of unemployment in the Sindh province, SBOI chief said adding that the Coordination Committees have been revived but they need to be propped up constantly by avoiding disappointments. Most of the government laws and procedures are being updated to make them relevant in terms of procedures, collection, facilities, investor-friendly, he said. Furthermore, the efforts are for encouraging investment which will result in further employments and reducing the poverty. The SBoI chief made it clear that it is absolutely the privilege of the Labour Department to micro management of the department, while the SBoI has invested significant efforts only to assist the Labour Department, to stop flight of investment from the province and ensure more investments resulting in employment that will also increase the collection of SESSI.
