Fuel supply to plants to be enhanced

ISLAMABAD - A meeting of Secretaries Committee on energy was held here on Thursday in the Ministry of Water and Power to review the demand, supply and power generation in the country. The meeting was attended by Secretary Water and Power, Zafar Mehmood, Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr WaqarMasood and Joint Secretary (Power), Zergham Ishaq Khan.
The meeting reviewed that the gas supply from Qadirpur gas field was suspended to the four power plants namely Rosche power, Fauji Kabirwala, Altern power and Engro power due to tripping of the gas field and generation reduced by 763 MW. The generation also affected from four IPPs near Lahore where gas was temporarily provided.
The generation of 400 MW affected from these plants are Orient Power, Saif, Saphire and Halmore power plants. It was observed that about 1,100 MW has been unexpectedly reduced from the system due to non-supply of gas.
The meeting decided that all possible steps would be taken to make operation the Qadirpur gas field at the earliest. The demand supply gap would be reduced by using alternate resources and steps would be taken to generate maximum power from fuel run power plants. Meanwhile, fuel supply would be enhanced for both public and private sector power plants to reduce the shortfall.
It was decided that immediate steps would be taken to provide 5600 metric tons of furnace oil to Kapco, 5800 metric tons to Muzaffargarh and 2000 metric tons to Jamshoro power plant.  It was also decided that total of 7,400 metric tons would be provided to AES Lalpir, Pak Gen, Saba, Sepcol, Atlas and Japan power company.
