ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Utility Stores Corporation plans to provide Rs 3 billion subsidy on various items including food items as part of its Ramazan package for relief of the people specially the common man during the Holy month. We have decided to provide relief of Rs 3 billion to the people during the holy month under our Ramazan package, a senior official of the USC told APP here on Wednesday. He said the government would provide Rs 1 billion subsidy specially on Sugar during the holy month for providing of the commodity to the people at controlled rates as compare to open market. Replying to a question regarding the reported increase of sugar by Rs 10 per kilogram, he clarified the USC has so far not received any direction from the concerned quarters in the regard adding sugar would be available to the people at controlled rate of Rs 45 per kg at all its outlets across the country. The Senior official further said that all the zonal headquarters have been informed in this regard to sell sugar at official fixed rate of Rs 45 per kg as against Rs 72-75 per kg being sold in the open market. He said that strict mechanism of monitoring and control at the stores would be ensured for provision of the commodity at controlled rate besides all other commodities. About the sugar quality, he informed that USC was providing Acumsa-45 sugar which is considered one of the best in international market and said that the corporation would not make any compromise on the quality and standard of the edible commodities in its outlets. He said that USC would also provide Rs 2 billion subsidy on different items under Ramzan Package besides providing Rs 1 billion on sugar for smooth supply of different commodities. Wheat flour (atta), ghee, cooking oil, grams, white grams, basin, dates and sugar would be provided on subsidized rates through USC outlets across the country during whole month, he added. Besides this, he informed that USC was negotiating with different vendors to further provide prices relaxation on about 800 kitchen items on controlled rates under its Ramzan Package.
