LAHORE – After crash of Bhoja Airlines plane a week back wherein all 127 passengers including crew members on board were killed, PIA is going to ensure highest safety standards in its working culture in collaboration with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), a PIA officer said on Sunday.
He said that Society of Aircraft Engineers Pakistan (SEAP) would start a week-long programme starting from April 30, to May 07 next month in this regard. As per programme first group of session on Safety Management System (SMS) would be held in Karachi. The said session would be addressed by Engineer Riasat Ali Changezi. SEAP management has requested all the directors of different PIA departments to nominate at least 10 to 12 persons to avail this exclusive learning opportunity.
An office-bearer of SEAP said that Safety Management System (SMS) is becoming a standard for the management of safety beyond aviation and it will not be incorrect to say that SMS is the future for aviation worldwide. It is also ICAO’s mandatory regulation to be implemented in every airline.
In order to promote safety management culture within PIA, a number of introductory sessions have been planned and same will be facilitated by CAA experienced professionals. Since this cultural change is mandatory requirement to comply with ever-changing advancement in aviation, active participation will help mitigate all risks associated with operations.
The success of SMS lies in efforts across both horizontal and vertical levels of management in technical as well as non-technical areas.
