LAHORE - The appearance of Sunday Bazaars visitors on this weekend was very thin partly due to cold weather and mainly owing to concluding days of the month, as salaried class was almost absent from shopping despite abundant supply of vegetables and lowering trend of rates.
A visit to the Sunday bazaars makeshift markets revealed that downward trend of veggies prices also continued on this Sunday with robust supply of new crops, as several items prices were further down.
Due to limited appearance of Sunday bazaars’ shoppers weak business activities were recorded this week, as the salaried class could not made good buying of kitchen items due to end of the month.
This week the prices of tomatoes, potatoes, pease and onions were further decreased as the harvest of new crop gained momentum.  The potato rate was further cut to Rs19 per kg and onion rate was reduced to Rs33 per kg while tomato price was hovering around Rs40 per kg and all items were available in huge volumes with normal quality. Capsicum price was fixed at Rs70 per kg from last week rate of Rs77 per kg. Green chili price was reduced by Rs2 per kg and fixed at Rs50 per kg but sold at Rs 53 per kg. Lemon price was fixed at Rs30 per kg and sold at up to Rs40 per kg in different markets. Reddish rate was raised and fixed at Rs12 per kg but sold at Rs15 per kg. Carrot price was reduced and fixed at Rs15 per kg and turnip rate was fixed at Rs17 per kg and sold at Rs20 per kg.
Methi price was fixed at Rs18 per kg with an increase of Rs2 per kg but sold at Rs20 per kg. Spinach, farm, price was fixed at Rs10 per kg, spinach, local, at Rs16 per kg while green beans rate was fixed at R42 per kg and sold at Rs50 per kg. Ginger, China, rate was raised by Rs25 per kg and fixed at Rs215 per kg, ginger, Thailand, by Rs12 per kg and fixed at Rs198 and ginger, India, by Rs30 per kg and fixed at Rs 172 per kg. Official price of bitter gourd was fixed at Rs70 per kg and sold at Rs 80 per kg. Pumpkin price was increased to Rs25 per kg but sold at Rs20 per kg. Brinjal price was fixed at Rs15 per kg and cucumber, farm, price was fixed at Rs12 per kg and sold at Rs20 per kg. Cauliflower price was decreased by Rs 5 per kg and fixed at Rs10 per kg and cabbage was sold at Rs15 per kg.
The prices of different varieties of apple were fixed at Rs50 to 1115 per kg but lower quality apple was sold in the range from Rs 50 to 100 per kg. Banana price was fixed at Rs52 per dozen but lower quality banana was sold at Rs50 per dozen while outside the makeshift markets, A-quality banana was sold at the same rate of Sunday bazaars.
