Figure fudging in energy sector Shortfall more than govt claim

ISLAMABAD - The government is claiming wrong figures of power shortfall as actual figure is more than 4,000 megawatt against the claimed 2,700 megawatt.
The figure fudging whereas cannot bring any relief for masses as they have to suffer from long hours load shedding. The experts of power sector, presently working in different departments said that the actual figures are different and every one is curious that why government is projecting wrong figures when no benefit can be drawn out of it.
It is predicted that coming summer likely to be more hot this year and demand of electricity could reach up to 14,000 megawatt against power generation 9,500 megawatt presently, the sources said.
They explained that if real figure of short is 2,700 megawatt in the country, big cities would be facing 3-4 hours load shedding and rural areas would be suffering from 6-8 hours power outages. But on the contrary, masses living in major cities are suffering from 8-10 hours power outages and rural area residents don’t see electricity up to 16 hours and even 18 hours in some areas.
The sources also said that in coming days, the situation seems not to get better as apparently there is no source available with the government. They said that IPPs, capable to generate up to 7,000MW, are adding 6,000 megawatt in national grid while on non-payment of dues might decrease further while there is no chance of increasing hydel generation.
The major reason behind current crisis in the country is short recovery as government was able to collect 83 per cent of total dues this year that caused financial crunches for the power sector and secondly increased water releases from dams decreased hydel generation as there is no water stock left in the dams to generate electricity.
