Govt urged to promote Cholistan livestock sector

LAHORE - Convener Standing Committee of the LCCI on Halal Food Nasib Ahmed Saifi has urged the government to pay special attention for developing Cholistan desert covering an area of 1600 Km2 as hub for promoting livestock sector of Pakistan.
To achieve this target, Government of Pakistan should launch a special campaign for free vaccination and treatment of Livestock of this area. No doubt, Govt. gives free medication and vaccination for Cholistan but due to lack of check and balance, most of the medicines are sold on veterinary medical stores or used in practice to earn more and more money by veterinarians and veterinary assistants of this area.
He claimed a large number of animal population of Cholistan is the great asset of Pakistan. They take the water of pond which is contaminated and animals are on risk for the list of diseases.
For their survival and viability of animals, Government of Pakistan should take some necessary corrective measures of the betterment of Cholistan.
He said all animals should be vaccinated properly with HS and Foot and Mouth Disease.  These are very fatal diseases which may cause death of animals owing to this reasons most of animals are dying. The Indian Government has taken the revolutionary steps for safety of inhabitants and livestock of Rajasthan. Because of its efforts FAO has declared the Rajasthan, a ‘disease free zone”. This can be possible with Cholistan if Government of Pakistan show seriousness for the prosperity of Pakistan and people of this area, he concluded.
