KARACHI (NNI) The President of China Water and Electric Corporation Mr. Wang Yu met with Sindh Minister Electric Power Ms. Shazia Marri along with a 5 member delegation. During the meeting development of hydro, thermal, wind and solar power generation through CWE's expertise and technical support, was discussed in detail. Mr. Wang Yu offered Sindh Government financial and technical assistance in the establishment of a Hydro Power Plant at Sukkur Barrage on River Indus and pointed out that the province has great potential for power generation through the establishment of hydro power plants as well as coal, wind & solar plants. He stated the CWE was also ready to provide all possible technical assistance in enhancing capacity of presently working power plants. After the meeting Ms. Shazia Marri while briefing the media on the issue pointed out that the development of energy sector is necessary to meet the growing needs of the country and stated that the Government of Sindh has enlisted energy sector among its top priorities. Ms. Marri said that the government of Sindh has initiated Feasibility reports to look into the development of hydro power plants on 5 suitable points of River Indus of which Sukkur Barrage is recognised as having the most potential. She expressed the government's willingness to share available data regarding power generation possibilities in Sindh. Ms. Marri while replying to a question load shedding in Karachi, said that the problems of prolonged electricity breakdowns is mostly because of disputes between KESC's management and union. She said that in this regard KESC has to show responsibility to redress the issues of workers and further added that the government of Sindh has always extended support to KESC in every crisish On this occasion CWE's President Mr. Wang Yu said that his company was ready to initiate work on projects in hydro, coal, wind & solar energy power generation sectors immediately.
