RAWALPINDI - Four unknown armed dacoits snatched Rs 10.5 million and mobile phones from General Post Office (GPO) staff in broad daylight here at Bagga Morr Bhumbli on Chakbeli Khan Road on Wednesday.
The dacoits ran in a car after looting cash while police were called to Bagga Morr following the dacoity.
According to sources and police, the incident took place at 11:00am within the limits of Police Station Rawat when GPO staff comprising Tassawar Hussain (driver), Muhammad Tabraiz (cash overseer) and Sajjad Satti (the gunman) was going in a car (registration number IDG-1598) to deliver cash to some six local post offices located on Chakbeli Road. The four robbers carrying weapons in their hands and covering their faces with pieces of cloths intercepted them at Bagga Morr at gunpoint.
The robbers, who came in white Toyota Corolla car, snatched bags containing cash and other stuff from the staff. Later, the intruders ran away. Soon after the incident, the senior officers of GPO rushed to PS Rawat.
An eyewitness told The Nation that the robbers were holding Kalashnikovs and pistols in their hands.
MURDER CONVICT GETS LIFE SENTENCE, RS500,000 FINE
A court of law awarded life imprisonment and Rs 500,000 fine to a murder convict on Wednesday.
The prosecution Atif Nawaz Bhatti Advocate and Rizwan Ghafoor Bhatti Advocate on Wednesday told the court that Yaar Zaman axed one Shah Wali to death near Murree Expressway over monetary issue on February 7, 2013. They argued that the killer buried the dead body at the same place where he committed crime, adding that Murree police registered a murder case and later arrested the killer, besides recovering the tool used in the murder.
The defence lawyer also argued before the court pleading to release the murderer, as prosecution could not produce any substantial evidence of witness.
However, the court awarded life imprisonment to Yaar Zaman and also fined him Rs 500,000.
