ISLAMABAD - The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) on Wednesday said that River Indus is flowing in medium flood at Kotri and low flood at Guddu Barrage, whereas all other main rivers - Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej & Kabul are flowing normal.
As per FFC, Tarbela reservoir has attained its maximum conservation level of 1550 feet since August 20, whereas Mangla reservoir is at an elevation of 1238.35 feet, which is 3.65 feet below its maximum conservation level of 1242 feet.
The FFC also said that the Dam Management Authorities have already been advised to take utmost care and vigilance in operation of dams and strictly follow filling criteria and safety guidelines. On Wednesday, combined live storage position of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 13.909 million acre feet as compared to last year's 9.762 MAF.
According to Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, the other day's trough of westerly wave over Kashmir has moved away eastwards and a fresh westerly wave is moving across eastern Iran. Seasonal low lies over northeastern Balochistan. Moist current from Arabian Sea is penetrating into central & upper parts of the country up to 3000 feet. And the weather system is being closely monitored by Pakistan meteorological department.
On Wednesday, as predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, isolated thundershower is expected over Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, D.G. Khan, Peshawar, Kohat and Hazara Divisions including Kashmir, Lower Sindh & Northeastern Balochistan, besides, upper catchments of Rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej during the next 24 hours. No significant rainfall event has been reported by FFD, Lahore during the past 24 hours.
According to the FFC, the discharges at important river sites on September 2, 2013 had showed normal flood. On river Indus, Terbella reservoir has a designed capacity of 15,00,000 cusesc, and water inflow was 1,74,000cusec while outflow was 1,73,000cusecs. Similarly, the flood situation remained normal at Kalabagh structure whose designed capacity is 9,50,000 cusecs and water inflow was 2,43,000 cusec while outflow was 2,34,000 cusecs. Chashma reservoir with a designed capacity of 9,50,000 cusecs had witnessed 2,79,000 cusecs water inflow as water outflow remained at 2,59,000 cusecs. Taunsa barrage with a designed capacity of 11,00,000 cusecs had witnessed water inflow of 2,35,000 cusecs while the water outflow was 2,19,000 cusecs. Guddu barrage on Indus river with a designed capacity of 12,00,000 cusecs had received water inflow of 3,13,000 cusecs while the water outflow remained at 2,83,000 cusecs. Sukkur barrage with a designed capacity of 15,00,000cusec had received 3,25,000cusec while water outflow remained at 2,67,000cusec. And, Kotri barrage with a designed capacity of 8,75,000cusec had showed water inflows of 3,58,000 cusecs while water outflow remained at 6,50,000 cusecs.
River Kabul at Warsak and Nowshera structure has a designed capacity of 5,40,000 cusecs where the water inflow was 5,40,000 cusecs while water inflow and water outflow remained equal and not a single cusec difference was recorded at 20,000 cusecs. However, river Kabul at Nowshera had recorded water outflow of 30,000 cusecs.
Similarly, river Swat (tributary of Kabul) at Amandra headworks showed 150,000 cusecs water outflow, while Munda headworks showed 15,000 cusecs and Charsada road bridge showed 14,000 cusecs. Mangla reservoir at River Jehlum has a designed capacity of 10,60,000 cusecs and recorded water inflow of 28,000 cusecs with a water outflow of 11,000 cusecs. Rasul structure at river Jehlum has a designed capacity of 8,50,000 cusecs and showed water inflow of 4,000 cusecs with nil water outflow. River Chenab at Maralla has a designed capacity of 11,00,000 cusecs and showed water inflow of 64,000 cusecs with water outflow of 50,000 cusecs. Khanki structure at river Chenab has a designed capacity of 8,00,000 cusecs had showed 51,000 cusecs water inflow and 43,000 cusecs water outflow while Qadirabad structure has a designed capacity of 8,07,000 cusecs and showed water inflow of 45,000 cusecs against the water outflow of 23,000 cusecs. Trimmu structure at river Jehlum has a designed capacity of 6,45,000 cusecs and showed 52,000 cusecs water inflow against 43,000 cusecs water outflow while Panjnand at river Jehlum has designed capacity of 7,00,000 cusecs and showed water inflow of 74,000 cusecs while water outflow remained at 61,000 cusecs. And, flood situation at river Ravi and river Sutlej was recorded normal.
