JI finalises seat adjustment with AQ’s party

ISLAMABAD - Though Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has yet to finalize seat adjustment with Pakistan Muslim League (N) and some other political factions, the religio-political party on Tuesday announced to make seat adjustment with Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz Pakistan (TTP) led by Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, for the upcoming general elections.
“Both the political parties have decided to jointly contest the elections,” said Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munwar Hassan while talking to newsmen after his meeting with TTP Chief Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan about seat adjustment and other issues of mutual interest.
Munawar claimed that a conspiracy is being hatched to delay the general election and the interim government should keep an eye on such kind of activities.
“Even after the caretaker government the incidents of kidnapping for ransom and target killings have comparatively increased which could ultimately scare the voters on polling day,” said Munawar Hassan.
To a question about caretaker Interior Minister, the JI chief raised serious objections over two of Malik Muhammad Habib’s recent statements including remarks about deployment of army at polling stations a non-professional approach and his second statement which is clearly exhibiting his political tilt towards specific political faction. “We used to point out former Interior Minister in different matters but the appoint of interim interior minister is tantamount to out of the frying pan into the fire,” he added.
It would not be out place to mention here that some of political factions have already criticized the recent statements of Interior Minister demanding his immediate resignation.
To a question about seat adjustment with PML-N, he limited to utter a single line answer saying ‘talks are underway’.
About alliance with religio-political parties (MMA), he said alliance is not possible as all religious parties have announced their election emblem but possibilities of seat-to-seat adjustment are still there. He further summed up that the matter of seat adjustment with other parties would be resolved in four days. When asked about contest with former President Pervez Musharraf in elections, he said that JI would contest against him and win the seat with a heavy margin.
To a question, Secretary General TTP Ch. Khursheed said that both JI and TTP would jointly contest in upcoming general elections-2013. “Our candidate would contest entire the country and bag maximum seats,’ he added.
When asked about public meeting at Minar-e-Pakistan, he said TTP with some other political parties would hold public meeting in coming month.
To a question, he informed that TTP chief Dr.Abdul Qadeer would not contest in elections on the advice of party members.
It is relevant to mention here that Dr.Abdul Qadeer around a month before in a grand reception hosted in his honour by the Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, at Mansoora, showed his inclination to jointly contest upcoming elections.
