Two killed in blasts

KARACHI - Two coordinated mysterious blasts at the worship places of Agha Khan Community left two people killed and wounded over 40 here on Tuesday.
The first blast took place inside the Agha Khan Jamaat Khana located at Shahrah-e-Pakistan near Karimabad while the similar incident occurred at another Jamaat Khana located in Metroville SITE area. District Central SP Amir Farooqi while talking to The Nation said the culprits riding a motorbike hurled a hand grenade inside the Jamaat Khana and escaped. Following the attack, two persons including a woman and 11-year-old child were killed while 26 others wounded. Witnesses said it was a routine time of worship when the incident occurred, said DSP Saleem Akhter.
The victim woman and children were yet to be identified.
The second blast took place in Metroville area of SITE where assailants used the similar modus operandi within an hour of the above said incident but the bomb was exploded just away from the crowded place.
SP Fida Hussain when contacted said militants riding a motorbike threw the bomb inside the residential area of Agha Khan Community but unable to target the main Jamaat Khana. Few people got minor injuries. He said experts of Bomb Disposal Squad are trying to ascertain the nature of the blast. Experts revealed that both the bombs were locally manufactured known as ball bombs carrying at least 500 grams of explosives with pellets. The injured were shifted to Agha Khan Hospital where sources pointed out that the number of injured were at least 40.
