RAWALPINDI - A young man was killed and many others injured in an armed clash between two rival groups in Gareebabad area of Police Station (PS) Airport Thursday night, police said on Friday.
The police said that the bloody brawl occurred between two powerful groups one Pakhtoons of “Kuta Gali” and the other from a political party ruling the province.
The clash left a young man dead and many injured, all belonging to the political party. The dead man was identified as Bilal Maqbool, the son of Muhammad Bilal.
“The sons and other relatives of the influential political party were drunk and harassing the passers-by in the area. The situation got uncontrolled when the drunk stopped a man who belonged to their rival group and was going somewhere in his car with his family.
The victim called his other relatives for revenge which sparked the clash during which a man was killed and many others maimed” a senior police officer told The Nation.
The police filed a murder case and started investigation with no arrest so far. SHO Airport police, Azhar Shah, when contacted, said that the police had lodged a murder case on the complaint of one Asad Jahangir, who is close relative of PML-N former MPAs Malik Ghulam Raza, Malik Yasir Raza and MPA Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal.
In his application, SHO said, Asad stated that he along with Jahangir, Usman, Bashir, Faisal Satti and Ahmed Khan were distributing meat of sacrificial animals at Malik Raza Plaza at 10pm when a group, comprising Shakoor Qasai, Akhter Zada, Sher Khan, Zubair Khan, Khair Ullah Khan, Idrees, Sher Zaman, Jalal Khan and other 40 to 45 turned on us with guns, daggers, knives and axes, resorted to aerial firing and then took away his jeep along with them.
He further said that the armed people opened fire and injured us critically when we tried to get back our jeep.
Hearing the sound of firing, Malik Jahangir along with Bilal and Nauman Jahangir came to the spot in his vehicle which was also attacked, Asad mentioned in addition with Bilal sustained bullet injuries and later died.
He stated that later, the armed men also injured Mehraj Jahangir with knives and daggers. All fled after committing crime, the applicant mentioned.
The applicant told that the attackers lived in Kuta Gali and always terrorized the locals by resorting aerial firing and showing stunts on motorcycles and upon barring they attacked us.
Police taken up case and was investigating.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer and some eyewitness told The Nation that the scions of a ruling party were drunk during an Eid Milan Party and were beating people on road at that time.
