PESHAWAR - Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan Saturday expressed deep grief and shock over the death of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s senior minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour in a suicide blast.
Asfandyar said why political leaders were not reaching to consensus to deal with terrorists.
"If terrorists were not ready for talks, decisive actions should be taken against their safe heavens in tribal areas" he said.
The ANP chief called the killing of Bashir Ahmed Bilour a loss of the country.
Talking to the media, he said that the government had two options; either negotiate or launch a massive operation against the militants to destroy their sanctuaries. He said that ‘we will continue to fight the terrorists as long as we are alive’.
Calling for an operation against militants, Asfandyar Wali said ANP would continue fight against terrorists and its workers would not sit in their homes.
He said that the fight against terrorists is not the war of ANP only, but the whole nation should unite against them.
When asked what would be ANP's strategy now, he said soon a party meeting would be called to form a strategy, adding that he would meet President Asif Ali Zardari and other authorities to discuss the future line of action.
Talking to media, Bashir Bilour's elder brother and Federal Minister for Railways Ghulam Ahmad Bilour said Bashir Bilour was a brave man and had wished to be a martyr. “My brother used to say that the night slated for the grave cannot be spent at home.”
The minister said: "We live in a Pakistan where religious leaders had signed on the Constitution. We don't know who is on the right path. Whether those who signed on the Constitution or the terrorists.” He told the media that Bashir never concerned much about his security and there were only one or two guards used to accompany him.
Talking to media, KPK Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said: “I salute Bashir Bilour. He sacrificed himself for the country and he fought against militants."
He said that Bilour had repeatedly received threats from militants.
He condemned the attack and said the government needed to intensify its battle against the Taliban.
He said that there was need to launch operation against the militants whether it was in North Waziristan or in any other area. He said such attacks could not stop them from speaking truth.
Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao condemned, calling it a conspiracy to deprive the nation of its leadership.
KPK PML-N Secretary Information Nasir Khan Musazai strongly condemned the killing of the ANP leader and said that the country lost a brave politician and a leader.
