ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique called on Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry at the NAB Headquarters on Friday. During the meeting, the chairman NAB and minister agreed to work in close collaboration for early disposal of the corruption cases of the Pakistan Railways being investigated by the Bureau. Minister was accompanied by Secretary Railways and other senior officers of the department. Senior officers of NAB were also present in the meeting to assist the chairman on different corruption cases of Pakistan Railways.
Chairman NAB said that NAB would play a proactive role to strengthen regulators and support individual organisations in their efforts to eradicate corruption from the country.
The chairman NAB asked the Railways authorities to detail focal persons for different corruption cases of Pakistan Railways to facilitate NAB for timely provision of relevant record.
He directed senior officers of NAB to actively pursue all the cases to conclude the cases to their logical end and focus be given to recovery of the losses to the national exchequer along with action against the accused persons.
Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique assured that we will continue to help NAB in the war against corruption as he reaffirmed his commitment to eradicate this menace from Pak Railways.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister of State for Education, Training and Standards in Higher Education, Engineer Muhammad Baleeh-ur-Rehman has directed for constituting a Taskforce for the development of National TVET Policy, which will give a strategic overview for the reforms in the TVET system.
The minister issued these instructions while presiding over a meeting held at the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) headquarters on Friday.
“Development of a National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Policy is need of the hour which would improve the state of skill development system in Pakistan,” said the minister. This Taskforce will consist of experts and employers.
On the occasion, Dr. Julie Reviere, Principal Advisor TVET Reform Support Programme, gave a presentation on the status of implementation of National Skills Strategy (NSS) and stressed the need for a National TVET Policy in line with the upcoming Vision 2015.
The minister agreed to the proposal and the proposed roadmap of developing this policy.
Raja Saad Khan, National Deputy Coordinator TVET Reform Support Programme, gave an overview of the National Skills Information System (NSIS), which is a new online tool to assess the needed skills and their link to the labour market.
The NSIS will give real time information to the potential TVET trainees about skills in demand and also the employers about the upcoming workforce. The minister lauded the initiative and assured of his support for its success.
Engineer Baleegh-Ur-Rehman was also briefed that Skills Standards and Curricula (SS&C) Wing of NAVTTC prepared a Code of Conduct for TVET promotion in the country. SS&C Wing has so far re- developed and notified total 170 curricula of different trades of Technical Education and Vocational Training.
For improving the standards & quality of teaching & training of TVET institutes of the country up to the national and international job markets, Accreditation and Certification (A&C) Wing of NAVTTC, prepared accreditation manual about TVET institutes of public and private sector with the help of International TVET Accreditation Experts.
Planning & Development Wing of NAVTTC also briefed the Minister that Apprenticeship Ordinance of 1962 has been amended with the consensus of all Federal and Provincial Stakeholders from public and private sector.
Amendments have been made keeping in view, that, this should be acceptable to maximum industry employers for implementation. The Minister was also briefed about the Development Projects carried out by the P&D Wing. For which, he directed for quick disposal of these projects.
The Minster, after the briefings, appreciated the good work done by the NAVTTC and GIZ and directed to incorporate vocational guidance in SIS.
