Delighted bride buys her dream dress in five pence

A bride has beaten the credit crunch after she bought her dream-wedding dress for just 5p on eBay. Heather Saint, the bride, was over the moon when she found the dress, made from antique white lace and silk, on the auction website and decided to buy it. She was stunned, when she won the auction with her knockdown bid of just 5p. Mrs Saint, 20, from Billingham, Teesside, said "It is gorgeous and I was proud to tell everyone at the wedding how much it cost, I didn't mind anyone knowing". She said, "You should have heard me squeal with excitement when I opened the parcel and saw how perfect it was. It's made by a designer from Singapore." And with such a bargain dress, Heather could afford to embellish it - with a 19.95 pounds petticoat. Heather said that there was a 40 pound postage charge, but the dress itself was just five pence." She married Mark, 24, in the thrifty frock. They have a 19-month-old daughter, Emily. Mark, a librarian, and Heather, who works part-time at Woolworth's, love buying and selling on the web. The happy pair wed at St Cuthbert's RC Church, Stockton, and reckons their big day cost around 3,500 pound. They made the invitations for 70 guests to attend a reception at the Smiths Arms in Carlton. "We were careful about the cost, but we had absolutely everything we wanted," said Heather. "It was just that having a little girl and a house we had more important things to spend money on." It's been a costly few months for Heather's mum and dad, Lorraine and Peter Dunn, of Barford Close, on Stockton's Glebe Estate. Heather's wedding came just five weeks after 24-year-old sister Kelly married Jon Schofield, 26, at St Mary's Church in Norton. Kelly, mum to two-year-old Jessica, met water meter reader Jon at Blakeston School. She spent 110 pound on her dress. She said, "We thought we were doing well with a wedding costing 5,000 pound. We were careful about what we spent, but Heather and Mark's was amazing." - Daily Mail
