Ice Age sweeps in and tops US box office

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - “Ice Age: Continental Drift” entered at the top of the North American box office this weekend, knocking “The Amazing Spider-Man” off the summit, industry figures showed.
The 3-D computer-animated adventure comedy flick, featuring the voices of Queen Latifah and Denis Leary, took $46.6 million during its first Friday through Sunday run on the big screen, movie tracker Exhibitor Relations said.
The latest Spider-Man effort, starring Andrew Garfield, was in second place with $34.6 million in weekend takings, and cheeky teddy bear comedy “Ted,” took third, down one place on the week, with $22.4 million.
“Brave,” the Pixar studio’s 3-D fairytale about a Scottish princess trying to rescue her mother from an evil witch, took $11.2 million in its fourth week, also slipping one place to fourth.
