Bristol Palin loses out in Dancing with the Stars final

SARAH Palins eldest daughter Bristol has been defeated in the final of the Dancing with the Stars competition, after claims that fans of her mother had helped her advance at the expense of more talented dancers. The competition was won by Jennifer Grey, the 50-year-old actress and star of Dirty Dancing who overcame neck and knee injuries and what she described as ten years of stage fright to perform. Grey and professional partner Derek Hough consistently topped the judges leader board, but Palins loyal fan base led to her surprisingly reaching the final. Palins improbable run for the finals had been championed by some conservative bloggers, who led get-out-the-vote campaigns on behalf of the 20-year-old single mother. Palins fan support was evident when she was voted in last week over singer Brandy - who had received a perfect score for her one dance - on last weeks show, prompting some viewers to question the veracity of the Dancing voting system. Miss Palin has been likened to former MP Ann Widdecombe, who has been regularly saved by the public vote on Britains Strictly Come Dancing programme after receiving low marks from judges. She has been strongly backed by her mother, conservative radio hosts and members of the Tea Party political movement. But the controversy has turned ugly and death threats were received against Miss Palin and her professional dance partner Mark Ballas, 24, who grew up in the UK. Programme staff were put on high alert and one said: Security is on absolute lockdown. Bristol is surrounded by security guards everywhere she goes. Last week a threatening letter with white powder was received at the programmes production offices and the FBI was called in. Tests showed it was talcum powder. A viewer in Wisconsin recently became so angry after watching Miss Palin perform that he fired a shotgun at his television and became involved in an armed stand-off with police. Sarah Palin said she had told her daughter that the haters are going to hate but she should fly and soar on the dance floor. Telegraph
