Granddaughter of Teddy Goldsmith found dead

ROBIN Whitehead, a member of one of Britains wealthiest families, the Goldsmiths, has been found dead of a suspected drugs overdose. The body of Miss Whitehead, 27, granddaughter of environmentalist Teddy Goldsmith and great-niece of billionaire Sir James Goldsmith, was discovered the other day at a flat in Hackney, east London. The results of a post mortem examination are awaited but police said there were no suspicious circumstances. An inquest was opened and adjourned on Wednesday. Miss White-heads mother is the author and illustrator Dido Goldsmith. Her father, Peter Whitehead, is a documentary-maker and leading figure in Sixties counter-culture. She was second cousin to Jemima Khan and Zac Goldsmith, the prospective Tory MP. The former fashion model was a friend of singer Pete Doherty. She was described as the official photographer and filmmaker for Dohertys band, Babyshambles, and recently directed a fly-on-the-wall film about him, called The Road To Albion. Police went to the flat in Daubeney Road at 8.30pm on Sunday following a call from the London Ambulance Service. A man and woman at the scene were questioned but not arrested. Doherty currently lives in Wiltshire and a spokesman denied that he had links to the Hackney property. The musician was in court on Wedn-esday on a separate drug-related matter. In a statement, the family said: Robin had an exceptional capacity for compassion and for love both to her family and close friends and to all those whom she touched. This was reflected in the depths and passion of her art. To lose her so young and so far before her lifes work was done is heartbreaking. Miss Whiteheads parents are separated but live close to one another in Kettering, Northants. She had three younger sisters. Her father made a series of acclaimed films in the 1960s on the Rolling Stones, Allen Ginsberg and Jimi Hendrix. TG Teddy Goldsmith, her grandfather, died in August 2009, aged 80. Founder of The Ecologist magazine and the Ecology Party, which later became the Green Party, he was a champion of conservation and organic farming - dubbed the 'Godfather of Green. His nephew, Zac, took up the environmental mantle and advises the Conservative party on green issues. The family asked for time to come to terms with our bereavement. Friends said Miss Whiteheads parents were absolutely distraught and did not know how their daughter had died. A Scotland Yard spokesman said: Police were called to an address in Hackney by the ambulance service to reports of a woman found deceased. A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course. The death is being treated as non-suspicious. TG
