The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed the nomination of Cameron Munter, a career diplomat, to be the next American ambassador to Pakistan.Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry, welcoming the confirmation, said given the importance of our relationship with Pakistan and the many issues we are trying to tackle together to bring prosperity and stability to the region, we could not afford a delay in confirming our next Ambassador. Kerry, who recently visited Pakistans flood-stricken areas, said Pakistan is suffering from its worst natural disaster in modern history. The United States will continue to stand with the people of Pakistan and has already led international donor efforts. He praised the outgoing U.S. ambassador Anne Patterson, who has served in Islamabad since 2007, saying she has done an outstanding job. I want to personally thank her and her family for her dedicated service. I look forward to working with Ambassador Munter and supporting his efforts to strengthen the partnership between our two countries, added Kerry, who is co-architect of a $ 7.5 billion multi-year assistance measure for Pakistan.
