Tanvir, Marsh the top performers

PERVEZ QAISER Kings XI Punjab's Shaun Marsh scored the highest number of runs while Sohail Tanvir of Rajasthan Royals claimed the highest number of wickets in the just concluded Indian Premier League. Marsh who became the first ever batsman to score over 600 runs in a Twenty-20 tournament, scored 616 runs at an average of 68.44 and a strike rate of 139.68 with one century and five fifties in 11 innings of as many matches. He hit 59 fours and 26 sixes in this tournament. Sohail Tanvir, who claimed 22 wickets at an average of 12.09 and a strike rate of 12.09, also set a new record of most wickets in a Twenty-20 cricket tournament. Nayan Doshi held the previous record of most wickets in an Twenty-20 tournament. The son of former Indian slow left arm spinner Dilip Doshi, took 21 wickets at 11.57 in 11 matches in 2006 Twenty-20 Cup in England for Surrey. As man as six centuries were scored in 116 innings. Four left-hand batsmen have scored centuries while only two right hand batsmen made hundreds in 58 matches in the Indian Premier League matches. The match between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Kinght Riders at Delhi was abanonded with out a ball being bowled. Ten bowlers on 11 occasions claimed four or more wickets in an innings. Rajasthan Royals left arm medium fast bowler Sohail Tanvir was the only bowler to achieve this feat twice. Chennai Super Kings' Lakshmipathy Balaji and Makhaya Ntini and Amit Mishra of Delhi Daredevils performed hat tricks, three wickets on successive balls, in this 44 days tournament.
