Chavez returns home after surgery

CARACAS (AFP) - President Hugo Chavez made a surprise return home to Venezuela Monday, after a controversial extended stay in Cuba where he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. "We got here as the sun was rising. So very happy to be back home," Chavez said on Venezuelan state television, acknowledging that he would not be able to take part fully in scheduled July 5 bicenntenial celebrations here. "I don't think that I will be able to be with you at all these official events, but I am here, and I will be with all of you from my headquarters in the heart of Caracas, and of Venezuela," Chavez said.
