US Navy jet crashes in Virginia

WASHINGTON - A US F-18 fighter jet crashed into a apartment complex in Virginia Beach in the State of Virginia soon after takeoff from a nearby Naval Air Station, according to television reports. Both crew members ejected safely, although they were injured, the reports said. While the crash caused heavy damage to some buildings, there were no reports of deaths or serious injuries on the ground. A section of Interstate highway, which connects Virginia Beach with Norfolk, was shut down in both directions. The jet, which was on a training mission, crashed soon after it took off, officials said. The crash occurred just after noon.
