Republican ends Brennan filibuster

WASHINGTON - Republican Senator Rand Paul and some of his colleagues staged the longest talking filibuster in recent US Senate memory from Wednesday into early Thursday, with rambling speeches aimed at blocking a vote on John Brennan. In seizing control of the Senate, a bloc of conservatives led by Paul successfully pushed a potential vote to confirm Brennan to run the CIA off the day’s agenda. What started in the morning as a solo effort turned into a multi-senator debate that included Ron Wyden, and at least seven Republicans questioning the constitutionality of drone strikes on US citizens at home and abroad.
