NEW YORK- A couple of residential buildings in New York's East Harlem neighborhood exploded and collapsed today, sparking a serious fire and injuring at least 11 people.
Harlem Hospital has one patient with heavy trauma and is expecting at least one more. According to sources, the explosions occurred on Park Avenue on 116th Street. One of the buildings that collapsed had a piano repair shop with apartments above. The second building housed a church. It’s still unclear if anyone was inside the buildings at the time of the explosion. Video from the scene showed heavy smoke rising from the area as hundreds of firefighters battled the blaze. Debris and rubble could be seen scattered all over the area.
