Nepal PM's election postponed to 22nd Aug amid deadlock

Nepal has postponed by four days the fifth round of parliamentary vote for a new Prime Minister, amid indication that both Maoist chief Prachanda and his rival R.C Poudyal do not have a majority support in the 601-member House. A meeting between the Constituent Assembly chairman Subash Chandra Nembang with the chief whips the main political parties UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, decided to postpone Wednesday's runoff vote to 22nd August. Election to the post of Prime Minister slated for Wednesday will be postponed till next week due to the death of Unified CPN (Maoist) lawmaker Ramkumari Yadav, according to an agreement among the major political parties in the parliament. It was decided to postponed the parliamentary vote by four days due to demise of the veteran UCPN-Maoist lawmaker, who passed away on Saturday in New Delhi while being treated for severe burns. "As per the parliamentary procedure and request of Maoist chief whip Bogati, a decision was made to put off the PMs runoff by four days," Laxman Ghimire, Nepali Congress chief whip, was quoted as saying by the media. The Parliament will pass a condolence resolution in memory of Yadav on Wednesday.
