Georgian president claims victory

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has claimed a landslide victory for his party in parliamentary elections, as the opposition denounced the vote as rigged.  The Wednesday elections "were free and fair and I hope international observers will confirm that. But the most amazing thing is the landslide victory for the government party," Saakashvili told reporters in the western city of Zugdidi.  Saakashvili's United National Movement won more than 63 percent of the vote, followed by the United Opposition Council with more than 14 percent, according to the exit poll by a group of leading Georgian think tanks.
