In an interview to Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram, Zahar said that Hamas will evaluate the current situation in light of the six-month ceasefire, which ended last week. "If there are positive responses within the organisation to the proposal of returning to the framework previous truce, Hamas will advance it", the Hamas leader, considered an extremist among its ranks, said. Earlier, Zahar, who had served asforeign minister inthe Hamas government, also told Israel's Channel 10 TV on Monday that the truce could be restored. "The price is the lives of the Palestinian people," he said. The Hamas leader, however said that Israel must ensure thatregular food and electricity supplies are maintained within the Gaza Strip, besides a halt on military incursions which should also be extended to the West Bank. Israel had not agreed to halt operations in the West Bank under the Egypt mediated truce that expired last Friday.
