8 US tourists killed, 21 injured in Egypt bus accident

A bus crashed with a truck in southern Egypt on Sunday killing eight tourists from the United States and injuring another 21 people, Egypt's national news agency Al Ahram reported. The road accident occurred when the bus was taking tourists from Aswan to a historic site of Abu Simbel. The truck hit the bus at full speed, the news agency said. An investigation into the accident is underway. Among those injured are 19 U.S. tourists and two Egyptian nationals. All of them have been hospitalized. About 30,000 traffic accidents occur in Egypt annually. Authorities say the main causes are poorly maintained vehicles, speeding and cars illegally entering the oncoming lane.
