MUMBAI (AFP) - This is how the terror attacks in Mumbai, which have left more than 125 people dead, unfolded. - A series of attacks begins around 10:30pm (1700 GMT) Wednesday in the Indian financial hub Mumbai involving gunmen armed with powerful assault rifles and grenades. - Maharashtra state police chief AN Roy says "unknown terrorists" have opened fire in "at least seven to eight places" across the city. They include two five-star hotels, the Taj Mahal and Oberoi/Trident, the main railway station, a hospital and a restaurant popular with tourists. - About 60 bodies and more than 200 injured are brought to a hospital in Mumbai after a series of shootings and blasts, the Press Trust of India says. - The US State Department condemns the "horrific" attacks and says it is monitoring the situation closely. - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown says the attacks are "outrageous." - A group calling itself the "Deccan Mujahideen" claims responsibility. - Military commandos storm the Taj Mahal hotel in the early hours of Thursday, reportedly killing two gunmen and freeing some guests. Flames and a massive plume of smoke billow out of the hotel. - US President-elect Barack Obama condemns the attacks and says the United States must work to strengthen ties with India and other nations to "root out and destroy terrorist networks." - India's stock and commodity exchanges are closed due to the attacks, along with shops, schools and businesses.
