Six killed as truck crashes into Vietnamese market

Vietnamese staterun media say an outofcontrol truck has slammed into a crowded outdoor market in the southern Mekong Delta, killing six people and seriously injuring two others. The Vietnam News reported on Tuesday that the truck came racing down a hill early Monday morning in Hiep Thanh ward of Hau Giang province. Many vendors were local residents who make their living at the market. The newspaper said an initial investigation indicated that the truck driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. He is in police custody. The wounded suffered severe head injuries and were taken to the hospital for surgery. Traffic on busy Highway 1 was backed up for six hours after the accident.
