BJP expels Jaswant Singh

NEW DELHI- Days after veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaswant Singh filed his nomination papers in the Barmer Lok Sabha constituency as an Independent candidate to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, India's main opposition party expelled him.

Singh has been expelled from the party for six years after he did not withdraw his nomination papers. A letter addressed by BJP General Secretary J P Nadda to Rajasthan state party chief Ashok Parnami as published in the party website said the move was made as the BJP constitution did not allow party men to contest as independents against its official candidates. Singh had filed the nomination after being denied a ticket by the BJP from the Barmer constituency in Rajasthan. The party has also expelled Subhash Maharia from the party fro six years. He is contesting as an independent in Sikar Lok Sabha constituency in Rajasthan.
