ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) conducted the registration examination of Pakistani national medical and dental graduates held on Thursday Islamabad. Over 2364 candidates appeared in the examination.
According to PMDC, this is the record number of medical and dental graduate who appeared in the National Examination Board (NEB) since its start in 1990. These candidates have acquired their basic qualification from abroad from foreign medical and dental university like China, Russia, Bangladesh, Philippine and Iran.
The purpose of exercise is to evaluate the competency and clinical skills of the graduates in order to issue them the license to practice and register their foreign qualifications as required under the law.
The current examination has been conducted under the arrangement of National Examination Board of PM&DC with the help of Liaqat University of Health Sciences, Jamshoro which provided the academic support like compilation of theory papers, for step I & Step II examinations.
The controller of the examination Dr. Rashid Anjum said that the candidates have to clear three steps to pass the examination. Step I comprises of two papers from basic medical sciences that includes the subject of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, Step II comprises of the clinical theory papers from clinical sciences, step III comprises of clinical/objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) viva voice.
It is pertinent to mention here that the PM&DC in order to facilitate these candidates arranged a 3 weeks preparatory /refresher course in the PM&DC in which 128 candidates were enrolled. The President PM&DC while telling the arrangements made for the examination said that for 2364 candidates PM&DC has engaged 14 examiners, 100 NTS Staff and 22 PM&DC staff to hold the examination.
