'Pending laws, old syllabus hamper homeopathic uplift'

ISLAMABAD - The government is giving special attention to learning skills in all sectors in general and health sector in particular, said Secretary Health, Mehmood Saleem Mehmood here on Sunday. He was addressing an award ceremony of 'Homeo Doctors 15 Days Advance Training Course' organised by Skills Development Council. More than 50 Homeo doctors across the country participated in the course. Principle Capital Homeopathic Medical College Dr Nasir Ahmad Chaudhry while highlighting the objectives of the course said that unfortunately pending laws regarding health sectors, fake advertisement and old syllabus had become main hurdles in the way of Homeopathic development. Addressing the objections raised by Dr Nasir, Secretary Health admitted that still there were some problems, as highlighted by Dr Nasir, which needs to be addressed immediately. He assured that Ministry of Health would soon overcome all the hurdles and problems being faced by the Homeo sectors. "Impartial laws, ban over fake advertisement and modern syllabus would ensure as soon as possible by the Health Ministry", he claimed. He observed, "Government of Pakistan while recognize its importance role, granted recognition to Homeo education in 1965 by enacting a law. Under the said law, National Council for Homoeopathy was established as a corporate body." He remarked that Homeo Medicines prescribed by doctors were mainly imported. However, a good number of national pharmaceutical companies in Pakistan have also started production. He termed this a positive trend for country's economy, which would also ensure availability of medicines at affordable prices to common man. While highlighting the need of Medical education he emphasized, "I may reiterate the need to align all medical education including homeo education according to the needs of the present time. I am sure that all stakeholders including the colleges, the Homeopathetic Council and the Ministry of Health will work jointly to achieve the objective of making the health education more responsive to the current requirements in the health sectors." At the end of the ceremony, awards were distributed among the doctors who have completed their training successfully .
