97 outlets issued notices for substandard food

ISLAMABAD - In pursuit of instructions by Member Administration Capital Development Authority (CDA) Amer Ali Ahmed, Directorate of Health Services (DHS) is moving ahead with its drive to secure supply of hygienic foodstuff to residents of Islamabad.DHS teams are engaged in action against hotels, restaurants, shops and stalls operating in breach of principles of public health. Legal action is also being taken against the violators.Two special purpose teams of DHS in this regard inspected many food outlets in different areas of the city during the last week and issued notices to 97 food outlets including restaurants, stalls, hotels and shops while 38 challans were also issued. Each DHS team was led by a food inspector. The DHS inspection teams confiscated 30 utensils, 24 custard packets, 36 litres drinking water, three chemical drums, 158 snack packs and 15 litres ketchup. Entire confiscated stuff was either substandard or expired. The confiscated stuff was destroyed afterwards. Pressing on with drive against unhygienic food outlets the DHS inspection teams sealed a kitchen of the restaurant in sector F-10 for violating relevant rules.The member administration CDA has directed DHS to be persistent and steadfast with its initiative against sale of substandard and unhygienic foodstuff in the city. Indiscriminate action as per law should be made sure against the non-observance of principles of public health. The transgressors should be brought to justice. The challans in this regard should be submitted in the court of CDA magistrate, the member administration further directed.
