ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed its surprise over the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) extending the deadline of Election Tribunals to complete their task.
Central Information Secretary PTI, Shireen Mazari, Tuesday said, "the ECP, instead of pushing the Election Tribunals to hasten their processing of cases - given that they have been unable to live up to their original deadline of 4 months - has allowed them another 6 months to complete their task (3 months for KP tribunals)."
She said in a statement that what was needed was to ensure the Election Tribunals completed their work in the shortest possible time by giving them deadlines - instead the ECP is ensuring they continue to delay the inevitable expose of electoral fraud.
Mazari said this revealed the complicity of the ECP not only in rigging but also in preventing the truth about electoral rigging from being exposed. The credibility of this ECP is now below zero and it is time for them to resign to prevent further miscarriages of justice.
Mazari said the scale of rigging in election 2013 was being exposed every time a constituency was opened for voter verification and yet no one so far has been held accountable. The stealing of the people's mandate in a deliberate and meticulously planned manner has resulted in a corrupt and unresponsive government and an increase in the misery of the people in the form of rising prices and deteriorating law and order. Most importantly, it has made a mockery of democracy as it has put in place a civilian autocracy where merit has been replaced by dynasticism, Mazari asserted.
