Waqas assures resolving HEC funding issues with ministry
 
 
 



ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Education & Training Sheikh Waqas Akram has assured his Ministry`s full support to resolve the issues of funding between Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and Ministry of Finance.
He was talking to the media after inaugurating the “13th International Pure Mathematics Conference 2012” organized by, Quaid-i-Azam University in collaboration with HEC, Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Pakistan Mathematical Society and Preston University.
The Minister said that the government is not in any conflict with HEC. “We will defiantly sit together and solve all our problems,” he mainatined.
Regarding military operation against militants he said the government is determined to launch operation against terrorist and they should be dealt with strongly as they have been ruthless to our people and country. He rejected any idea of negotiations with the militants and banned outfits who have been killing our innocent people.
“Anti-state elements are taking benefit of deteriorating law and order conditions and are using few banned religious outfits to flare up sectarian violence in the country. However, the government has arrested many involved in Sectarian violence,” he added.
He said that being a coalition partner, PML-Q has extended its full support to the PPP-led government for the creation of new provinces in the country. PML-Q has welcomed the government move of establishing a commission for the creation of new provinces, however, there is no such provision in the Constitution of Pakistan to setup such commission. The Commission is as important as several commissions formed at the time of partition of the Sub-continent to determine boundaries and other relevant issues, he added.
The Federal Minister categorically supported the idea of creation of Hazara province in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying that people of Hazara region want a separate province like Saraiki people, who are struggling for the creation of Saraiki province in Punjab. PMLQ, being a major political party of the country, has admired the inspiration of Hazara and Saraki people and it is making every possible effort for the fulfillment of the peoples dream.
He also made an announcement during his speech that a grant of Rs 5 million will be given to the Pakistan Mathematical Council to convene a mathematical conferences in future, which will give an opportunity to the students and teachers to exchange their ideas threadbare and clear their concepts must for moving forward.
The minister said that it is essential for Pakistani mathematicians to remain in touch with international mathematics community. Moreover Mathematics played a significant role in scientific society. Quaid-i-Azam University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai in his welcome address said that primary aim of organizing such activity is to enhance the understanding of mathematics and providing an opportunity to mathematicians for exchanging ideas with colleagues at a national, as well as international level.
He lauded the efforts of the organizers, especially Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences (QAU) and his team in the Algebra Forum, for arranging and sustaining such a valuable serial of international conferences.
Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq in his speech briefed the participants about historical background, contribution and importance of the thematic mathematics conference (IPMCs) series.
He also thanked the Preston University, the Pakistan Science Foundation, the Higher Education Commission, and the National Centre for Physics for supporting this valuable activity.
