ISLAMABAD - Different capacity building trainings, workshops, and sessions for students, faculty members and management cadre have gained momentum here at National University of Modern Languages (NUML) with the commencement of a five-week long Indigenous on Campus Training (IOT) for management cadre (BPS-16 and above).
This five-week long IOT, comprising five different sessions each week from August 25 to Oct 3, has been arranged by department of education with collaboration of Higher Education Commission (HEC) under capacity building of non-teaching staff and Dr Sufiana Khatoon is the focal person of the training. Besides NUML, the management cadre of different universities of the twin cities including Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi (FJWU), Allam Iqbal Open University Islamabad, Islamic International University Islamabad, and Institute of Space and Technology are participating in this training. The IOT training's first session regarding effective communication and presentation skills has been concluded which commenced on August 25.
Speaking on the concluding ceremony of the first session, Rector NUML Maj Gen Masood Hasan said, "We are committed to the professional and academic growth, development and boost-up of faculty, students and administrative staff alike. Under the guidelines of HEC, this training would improve the capacity and efficiency of the universities and promote good governance on campus."
Speaking on the occasion Registrar NUML Brig (Retd) Saeed Akhtar Malik said that NUML continued to arrange opportunities for personal and professional development of the members that linked with this family. He said that under different partnership and collaboration programmes many scholarship, fellowship, exchange and capacity building programmes were arranged for students, faculty members and administrative staff where they got chances to explore new heights of academic, research and professional excellence.
Talking to this scribe Dr Sufiana Khatoon said, "The aim of IOT is not only to train participants how to develop their communication and presentations skills directly through practice and feedback but also to provide a supportive and enabling context within which participants are encouraged to become more aware of their own capabilities of communication and presentations."
A participant of the training Sadaf Ahmed, deputy registrar FJWU, said that it was very useful opportunity to amend and update the concepts he learnt years ago. Since there are drastic changes and new trends and technologies being introduced rapidly, it is informative to learn about the latest prospective about effective communication and presentation skills.
Another participant of IOT, Abrar Husain, manager office of research, innovation and commercialisation at Bahria University, said, "Such trainings are a good opportunity to interact with your counterparts and share your problems, achievements and tips of growth in certain professions. The learned resource persons are of great help to break the monotony of our knowledge."
Syeda Hadisa Rzivi, software developer at NUML, while talking to this scribe said that only word for this training was brilliant. The HEC training would have a powerful and positive effect on career, she added.
