15th session of National Assembly starts today

The 15th session of the National Assembly will be held from Monday and is likely to be a stormy one following the historical judgement of Supreme Court of Pakistan declaring former president Musharraf's November 3 action illegal and unconstitutional. The session may be a test for the treasury members mainly for the PPP to handle the tough questions of the opposition members particularly regarding the controversial Ordinances including the status of Musharraf-architected National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). Deputy Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi will chair the session, as Speaker Fehmida Mirza is on a private trip abroad. The House would also discuss the general law and order situation across the country, especially the ongoing operation Rah-e-Rast in Swat, Malakand and Rah-e-Nijat Operation in Waziristan. It is also learnt that minority lawmakers would move a call-attention notice to discuss the clash between Muslims and Christians in Gojra, which led to burning alive of seven Christian people. Different political parties would hold their parliamentary parties' meetings to finalise agenda. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will be present in the House and would initially take the house into confidence over his visit to Sharm al Sheikh where he held talks with Indian Prime Minister on the sidelines of NAM summit.
