ISLAMABAD - ANF on Saturday swung up operation named Ameed-e-Nau at Karachi and seized dugs during a number of raids conducted in parts of the country on Saturday.
The operation Ameed-e-Nau has been started under the direct supervision of Force Commander ANF Karachi Brigadier Muhammad Abu Zar. The ANF conducted widespread operations across the country in general and Karachi in particular.
According to details, early Saturday morning while acting upon intelligence information, ANF Karachi with the support of Sindh Rangers executed an operation at Chaneser Goth against drug addicts, drug peddlers and drug traffickers and seized 20 kgs of Charas and liquor bottles and arrested eight accused.
In another operation at Karachi, to sanitize drug addiction sites, ANF cleared the areas of Aram Bagh & Jehangir Park and apprehended 16 persons. Yet another operation was conducted for the second time at Kala Pull Area and 4 persons were arrested. Though re-emergence of addiction sites remains a challenge, however ANF is ensuring repeated surveillance at renowned sites. Moreover, local police and notables of the area have also been taken on board. In another development, the ANF Karachi also intercepted a garment parcel destined for UK and recovered 530 Grams of Heroin tactfully concealed in inner layers of children jackets. The consignment was booked from North Nazimabad, Karachi.
In another operation, the ANF Karachi intercepted yet another consignment destined for UK and recovered 170 grams of brown heroin. It was placed in 38 polythene packets, tactfully concealed in 30 baby suites. The dispatchers of the consignment named Khuram Khalid and Ahmed Bilal have been arrested.
“In the countrywide operation, special emphasis has also been given to curb the transportation of drugs from upcountry to Karachi,” said a spokesman of ANF.
He said that all approach routes leading to Karachi are being kept under surveillance. Moreover, a strict watch is being kept at emergence of drug feeding routes to Karachi.
Resultantly, 500 kgs charas was also seized from a jeep at Kohat Road, he said.
