ICTA asks transporters to charge fixed fare from commuters

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has warned the transporters to charge the fixed fare from the commuters, otherwise, their vehicles will be impounded in police stations. Secretary of Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) Asia Gul has issued this warning to the transporters and said strict action would be also taken against those transporters fleecing the consumers. She conducted the checking at various routes and imposed heavy fines to public transport vehicles over non-completion of routes. As many as 16 vehicles of route No 104 were impounded in the Secretariat police station for running with out route permit. She also assured to redress the complaints of the commuters on the spot and impound vehicles for their involvement in over-charging. Meanwhile, the spokesman of ICTA said that Secretary of Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) Asia Gul conducted traffic checking on different routes and fined 165 public service vehicles and impounded several vehicles for traffic and route violations and plying vehicles without route permits. She also imposed fines worth Rs 35,800 on the vehicles for various violations during the last week. According to details, Secretary ITA Asia Gul during the traffic checking on various routes including Sector G-11, Secretariat Chowk and Dam-e-Koh Chowk impounded 18 vehicles and fined 165 vehicles for various traffic violations including non-completion of routes and plying vehicles without route permit during the last week. He said that Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Amer Ali Ahmed has also directed the traffic police and Secretary ITA to expedite the issuance of stickers to those PSVs which possess the complete documents of vehicles so that vehicles without permit could be identified easily during checking on roads. He also directed the traffic authorities to attend the complaints of commuters on the spot and provide them relief.
