The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has proposed that individuals with dual nationalities ineligible to take part in general elections and has recommended that the government transact a legislation in this regard. A meeting headed by Chief Election Commissioner, Justice (Retd.) Hamid Ali Mirza passed a resolution against individuals with dual nationality stating that they could not take part in elections to become members of Parliament. However, the meeting said if the government wants it can make legislation in this regard. It was also decided in the meeting that action against those who have fake degrees be sped up. The Election Commission also dismissed the reference submitted by Molvi Iqbal Haider which sought to declare ANP Senators Haji Adeel and Zahid Khan ineligible. A resolution was passed in the meeting which stated that a reference against a member can only be sent by the Chairman Senate or the Speaker of the National Assembly. According to the sources, the Election Commission also discussed registration of six new political parties and directed the Secretary to submit his report to the Commission after thoroughly studying the contents for registration. Moreover, the Election Commission issued election symbols to two parties for polls.
