Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf left here for Laos Sunday to attend Asia Europe Meeting Summit (ASEM) and discuss with world leaders important regional matters. The Prime Minister during his two-day visit, besides attending the ASEM-9 at capital Vientiane, would also meet a number of world leaders and discuss bilateral affairs. Talking to reporters prior to his departure the Prime Minister said It was an important forum, that would be attended by leaders from Asia and Europe. “Our focus will be on socio-economic issues and how to tackle these,” the Prime Minister said. The Prime Minister said Pakistan has been actively participating in ASEM, and has been its member since 2006. He said the ASEM forum, having 51-member States, has great significance for Pakistan. He said he would also apprise the world leaders of the challenges facing Pakistan and how it was coping with these. He said Laos was an important regional country, having close ties with Pakistan and said he would discuss with its leaders ways to further strengthen ties between the two countries in all spheres.
