ISLAMABAD- Seventy-two per cent of Pakistanis believe that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan should wait for the report of judicial commission rather than insisting on his demands for the prime minister’s resignation.
In a recent public opinion poll by Gallup Pakistan on ‘Political crisis and sit-in in Islamabad’, 82 per cent of the respondents said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had done a good thing by requesting the Supreme Court to investigate the allegations of rigging in general election 2013, while 17 per cent did not support it.
The opinion was split on accusations of rigging, as 51 per cent believed that there was no rigging in the election against the 49 per cent. About 67 per cent of the respondents dismissed the belief that the mandate of PTI was stolen in general election.
The public when asked what they considered to be Imran Khan’s primary aim for holding the Long March, 63 per cent said his primary aim was becoming a prime minister, 22 per cent believed that he wanted elimination of bribery and corruption from the country, while 14 per cent said his main aim was electoral reforms.
On any improvement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government after the coming of PTI’s provincial government into power, 48 per cent said there had been no improvement at all, 33 per cent said there was somewhat improvement, and 18 per cent said there had been a lot of improvement. When public was asked how trustworthy they think Dr. Tahirul Qadri was, 62 per cent termed him untrustworthy while 38 per cent regarded him trustworthy. About 76 per cent said Dr Tahirul Qadri should be jailed if it was proven that he had asked his members to attack the police before any kind of action from the police’s side.
On Imran Khan’s call for civil disobedience, 63 per cent of public said they disagreed with it while 81 per cent said they will continue paying their electricity and gas bills and taxes. Eighteen per cent said they will not pay.
About 69 per cent said they believed that the Army was not behind the protesting parties.When questioned about resignation of Nawaz Sharif, 66 per cent said he should not resign and 61 per cent said they believed that the parliament should not be dissolved.
