CDA centres to minimise after-effects of disasters

ISLAMABAD- Capital Development Authority (CDA)s Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management has decided to establish five sub-stations to enhance coverage area and minimise response time. The sub-stations would be established at I-9, G-10, Bara Kahu, Parade Ground and France Chowk to ensure immediate response in case of emergency, Syed Mustafain Kazmi, Director General (Civic Management) informed TheNation on Saturday. Earlier, while briefing Chairman CDA on the Authoritys emergency preparedness plan, Kazmi informed that the sub-stations would be provided with light vehicles and equipment to ensure immediate access in case of emergency. Later, back up would be called from the Headquarter in case the situation was supposed to go out of control of the advance team. He further informed CDA Chief that a dedicated team of the directorate had been constituted to inspect government buildings and explore possibilities of access of fire fighters in case of any untoward incident. Later, while talking to TheNation, Kazmi said that the said teams had completed 50 percent of their job and had indicated deficiencies and risks in the inspected buildings. In response to a question, he said that private buildings would also be inspected the same way. He said the Authority had strictly directed owners of the private building to submit with them their fire plan so that the Authority might deliver at their maximum in case of any emergency.He also said that the Directorate had prepared standard operating procedures (SOPs) and was continuously reviewing the same and taking steps to maintain high level of preparedness and reduce response time. Chairman CDA, on the occasion of briefing, directed the concerned officials to procure latest fire fighting vehicles and equipments to meet any untoward incident in future. He also directed for enhancing efficiency of fire fighters by imparting them with due training. Member (Administration) S M Farooqi, Member (Environment) Mazhar Hussain and other concerned officials also attended the briefing.
