ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: Several sectors of the federal capital are facing acute water shortage while the administration has become a silent spectator.
The worst hit sectors of water shortage are G-9, G-10, I-10-1 and other related sectors due to which the residents of these sectors are facing much problems during the holy month of Ramzan including with high intensity of hot weather.
The residents have to stand in long queues from midnight till morning for registering their complains with the CDA
The residents have appealed to the concerned authority to take immediate action so that the masses are provided some relief.
Meanwhile despite severe shortage of water, the CDA has failed to repair leaking pipelines in various sectors, which is causing a loss of millions of gallons of precious water daily.
Meanwhile, residents of the twin cities are facing water shortage problem in the holy month of Ramazan and despite monsoon rains water supply could not be restored to various parts causing immense inconvenience to them.
The areas of the city that suffer the most included Chungi No 22, Jhangi Muhalla, Javed Colony, Dhoke Chiraghdin, Gwalmandi, Aarya Muhalla, Tench Bhatta, Mohanpura, Bhabhra Bazaar, Dhok Kala Khan, Sadiqabad, Rahmatabad, Adiyala and Talsa Road. On the other hand some areas of sectors I and G were reported without water.
Taking advantage of the situation, water tanker mafia has also increased the rates of tanker. The residents said that one water tanker costs Rs800 to 1000.
Dr Liaquat Jadoon, Raheel Hussain and many other residents of Chungi No22 talking to INP said that water scarcity has extremely troublesome to them, adding that frequent power outages coupled by water shortage is gift for the concerned authorities during the month of Ramazan.
“Living in federal capital is a curse, we don’t get water for many days being dwellers of model city of the country,” Hussan Akbar, resident of Sector I-10/2 said, adding that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) attributes water shortage to power outages and low water level in dams.
The residents deplored concerned authorities for failing to ensure the most basic necessity, besides the authorities did not take any step even after several complaints.
They demanded adequate water supply to the areas as water consumption increase many times in summer season.
Meanwhile, Shortage of water supply in Lalkurti has made lives of the residents of the area miserable.
The residents of Lalkurti, Indus road no. 1 and 2 talking to APP said the areas have been facing water shortage, which multiplies their miseries but the authorities concerned are least interested to resolve the issue.
A number of complaints have been registered but the water supply situation could not be improved, they added. They said that they were facing great difficulties due to water shortage.
They informed that water has not been supplied to their area for the last several days and the Department of Water Supply was playing a role of silent spectator.
They deplored slackness of the concerned authorities for falling short to address the increasing demand of water in summer season, forcing the residents to adopt alternative solutions, such as water boring and purchase of water from private water suppliers on exorbitant rates to meet their needs.
The residents said that the authorities concerned have failed to ensure the demand of water supply due to which, they were facing hardships to get clean water for drinking and other domestic use.
Though, the demand of water has increased manifold but the water supply is not sufficient to meet the demand. Besides, the authorities concerned are not paying due attention towards the solution of the issue, said a resident.
They urged the authorities concerned to ensure adequate water supply to the residents of the areas.
