ISLAMABAD (APP) - Member of National Assembly and PML-N leader Prof. Ahsan Iqbal Wednesday underlined the need for bringing a knowledge-based revolution which is necessary for the development of the country. He said this while addressing at a two-day workshop on "Integrated Library Management System (ILS) and Machine Readable Catalogue (MARC) Orientation" here at National Library of Pakistan. The event was organised by Department of Libraries to develop the human resource in the field of library and information science to cater for the requirements of a modern library. Ahsan Iqbal, who is also Pakistan Muslim League-N secretary information, said that there is a need to work hard as the prosperity of next generation is linked to a knowledge-based education system. Highlighting the importance of libraries, he said these serve as foundation stone of knowledge-based society and make possible the process of life-long learning. Ahsan Iqbal urged the students to regularly visit libraries to get result-oriented information, which is vital for their bright future. He said he had taken a number of steps for promotion of knowledge and result-oriented education, when he was Federal Minister for Education in the PPP-led government but had to resign due to PML-N stance on judges issue. He said that he had directed the concerned department to increase libraries hours from 1800 hours to 2000 hours to facilitate the people. He said it was also planed to set up digital libraries system in the country to facilitate every students with vital text and latest information. Besides, he said that the Education Ministry had asked Higher Education Commission to direct public sector Universities to update their respective libraries. Ahsan Iqbal said that he as member Assembly, would continue his efforts for the promotion of knowledge-based education in the country. Director General Department of Libraries, Ch. Muhammad Nazir and Marketing Libraries, Using New Technology Mary Nell Bryant also briefed the participants about the importance of workshop.
